Kewadin Casino Network Halted by Data Breach

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that unauthorized access was gained to files containing sensitive personal information. The breach exposed personal details, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and health information. Upon learning of the incident, Catholic Charities took immediate action, initiating an investigation to determine the extent of the breach and identifying the affected individuals. The breach was officially acknowledged in a notice filed on February 7, 2025.

The breach was first identified on June 22, 2024, when suspicious activity was detected within Catholic Charities’ network. The organization quickly secured its network and began investigating the cause of the breach with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts. Through their investigation, Catholic Charities confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to parts of its network that contained confidential consumer information. The breach affected numerous individuals, and the organization worked diligently to identify all impacted data.

By January 27, 2025, Catholic Charities completed its review of the compromised files to determine the specific information that had been accessed and taken. This review revealed that, depending on the individual, the information involved could include their name, Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, and health-related data.

In response to the breach, the organization began mailing data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information had been exposed, detailing the types of data that had been affected.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social services to individuals and families in need. The organization offers a variety of services, including food assistance, housing support, immigration services, and workforce training. With approximately 455 employees and an estimated annual revenue of $234 million, Catholic Charities plays a crucial role in supporting the Southern Nevada community.
