Burr & Forman LLP recently disclosed a data security incident that may have impacted personal information. On October 23, 2023, unusual activity on a company laptop led to the discovery of unauthorized access to sensitive documents. The breach, which occurred on September 30, 2023, was investigated by cybersecurity experts, revealing that certain individuals’ personal information was compromised.
Following the discovery, Burr & Forman activated its Incident Response Plan and engaged with cybersecurity professionals to assess the extent of the breach. The firm conducted a thorough review of the affected files and notified those impacted by June 6, 2024. They also reported the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and are cooperating to hold the perpetrators accountable.
To address the breach, Burr & Forman has implemented additional security measures to prevent future incidents. They are offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through IDX. This includes up to 24 months of credit monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and managed identity theft recovery services.
Individuals affected by the breach are encouraged to enroll in the free services provided by IDX by using the enrollment code included in their notification letter. Burr & Forman recommends reviewing the guidance provided to protect personal information and monitoring accounts for any suspicious activity.
