The fractured Google Android ecosystem has a lot to answer for, and in 2021 that could include some 220 million websites throwing up security errors.
220 million websites use the free Let’s Encrypt service to enable secure HTTPS deployment. Let’s Encrypt is both easy and free. It’s also been a significant driver in the move to ensuring the bulk of websites now have secure HTTPS connections.
Google has also been front and center in this move to the worldwide adoption of HTTPS, not least by making it an SEO ranking factor. But now, it would seem, users of older versions of the Android operating system could soon be unable to make those secure connections.
