AI Expansion in US Schools Raises Concerns

The FBI, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information related to the Salt Typhoon hackers. This campaign is linked to cyberattacks reportedly affiliated with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) targeting multiple U.S. telecommunications companies. The Salt Typhoon group has engaged in sophisticated cyber-espionage, stealing sensitive call data and private communications from various victims, including U.S. law enforcement investigations.

The FBI has been tracking the Salt Typhoon group for months, with previous advisories issued in late 2024.

These intrusions highlight the complexity and scale of the operation, indicating a well-resourced group targeting victims globally. The U.S. government has taken several steps to address the ongoing threat, including issuing guidance for telecommunications companies to enhance security measures.

To further combat this threat, the Department of State’s “Rewards for Justice” program is offering a substantial reward for information on individuals linked to these cyber activities. This incentive is one of the largest ever provided by the U.S. government for information on cybercriminals linked to foreign governments. Federal authorities have urged the public to come forward with tips, which can be submitted through various secure channels.

As cyber threats to critical infrastructure rise, law enforcement agencies stress the importance of collaboration across sectors. The FBI’s commitment to safeguarding U.S. telecommunications is unwavering, and authorities emphasize the role of public vigilance in addressing the evolving cyber threat landscape. This reward offer is a key part of ongoing efforts to identify and disrupt malicious actors responsible for these attacks.
