Windows 10 Boosts EU App Uninstallation

Microsoft has rolled out the January 2024 preview update (KB5034203) for Windows 10, version 22H2, focusing on Digital Markets Act (DMA) compliance in the European Economic Area (EEA).

This update empowers EEA users to uninstall all Windows apps, aligning with compliance changes mandated by the DMA. The optional release allows Windows administrators to preview upcoming fixes and enhancements ahead of the official February 2024 Patch Tuesday release, ensuring a smoother experience for end users.

Apart from DMA compliance, the KB5034203 update addresses various issues, including a fix for single-function printers being installed as scanners and resolving problems with reconnection attempts in existing Remote Desktop sessions.

Notable improvements include addressing a caching issue in Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), resolving Code Integrity Module (ci.dll) issues that caused unresponsiveness in devices, and fixing known issues affecting BitLocker data-only encryption in the context of mobile device management services like Microsoft Intune.

The update also includes quarterly changes to the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file, DriverSiPolicy.p7b, expanding the list of drivers considered at risk for Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks. Microsoft recommends users to install this optional update to benefit from these fixes and enhancements.
